Cheap grace is not cheap because of a lack of conditions. It is cheap because of a lack of effect. Using your analogy, it's like soap that you rub all over, but you come out of the shower as dirty as before. Grace that leaves the sinner as sinful as he was before "receiving" grace is cheap grace.
OTOH, saving grace provides salvation from death and (here's the controversial part) salvation from sin. That's God's grace. See Mt 1:21 & Tit 2:11-14.
